As FF Registry Services, we attended the 78th ICANN General Meeting held in Hamburg, Germany, from October 21 to 26, 2023.
This event was also significant as it marked ICANN’s 25th anniversary. The internet industry gathered enthusiastically at a reception hosted by the German government to celebrate these past 25 successful years.
Numerous issues regarding ICANN’s future policies were discussed at the general assembly, which was hosted by DENIC, Eco, and .Hamburg.
One of the most critical items on the agenda was the decisions made based on feedback received by ICANN from the previous period regarding the new phase of the new gTLD program. This program, launched by ICANN in 2012, saw thousands of applications for domain name extensions.
